Training for the Trades provides training for HVAC technicians and almost any trade. We specialize in courses about computerized heat loads, operating cost analysis, duct sizing, and more. Custom classes on any technical topic are also available. Our instructors each have more than 30 years in the field so they bring real-life experience and knowledge to the classroom.Our Team
John Walsh
John Walsh is the co-owner of Training for the Trades, as well as a trainer. He has almost 40 years of experience in the HVAC and refrigeration industry, and has given training on Elite Software since 1994. He conducts training classes on Elite Software's RHVAC, Drawing Board, Manual D Ductsize, and Energy Audit Software.
Don Lewis
Don Lewis is one of our trainers for North and South Carolina. He owns his own HVAC business, and holds an NC HC-3 license. He conducts training for Elite Software and codes.
Phil Garnier
Phil Garnier is our trainer in Louisiana. He has been an HVAC contractor for 37 years, specializing in custom homes, and is a former head of the Heat Pump Association. He conducts training on Elite Software's Rhvac, custom installation, and troubleshooting.
Glenn Hooper
Glenn Hooper is a BPI-certified building analyist, shell specialist and heating professional. He is also a Resnet-certified Home Energy Rater, a Resnet Quality Assurance Designee and Level I Thermographer. His company Residential Energy Conservation focuses on the home performance market and Energy Star labeled homes in New York. He is our trainer for New York and Connecticut.
Harry Ritz
Harry Ritz is our technical consultant. He has trained HVAC contractors to perform proper computerized load calculations and balancing reports on buildings using ACCA Manual J and ASHRAE methods. He has also trained contractors for P.E., P.S.E.G., P.P.& L, DELMARVA, C.P& L., L.P.& L, Cajuan Electric, York International, Sears & Robuck, etc.
In addition, he has sold, installed and trained microcomputers to contractors, engineering firms and their employees. This has included everything from load calculations, duct sizing, AutoCAD, ADCADD to Network system. He has also trained contractors to set up their customers' maintenance programs on a database program and taught them to perform job costing operations on their respective projects.
Lewis Cooley
Lewis Cooley has 35 years of experience as an HVAC specialist at Duke Energy. He is certified to teach Manuals J, D, S, and N by ACCA, and is an accredited geothermal installer. He is an active member of RSES, ACCA, ASHRAE, and SCHPA.
George Wentzel
George Wentzel is an Elite Software salesman and trainer in Texas with over 12 years of HVAC experience.
Jobie DeVinney-Walsh
Jobie DeVinney-Walsh is our marketing and advertising specialist. She is also the primary author of our books and DVDs.
